The Enlightenment: A Brief History with Documents (The Bedford Series in History and Culture)

The Enlightenment: A Brief History with Documents (The Bedford Series in History and Culture) by Margaret C. Jacob.

This book contains a basic outline and information about the 18th century movement of the enlightenment and it's relationship with and influence on political, social, economic, and educational landscape of the day. Also, included in its pages are first hand documents. I am nominating this book because i think it will be a good basic overview for the period but also the documents will bolster our research of said time period. also it got very good reviews.

I searched on a new academic search engine, Questia, to find these next few Books.

This book deals mostly with the economic implications of the british industrial revolution. some topics to be covered are agriculture, education and skills of the laborer. i am nominating this book because i am an econ major and i think that it would be fascinating to discover more of the historical economic aspects of the industrial revolution. i think there would be great connections to today. also the whole book is free on questia.com

The Industrial Revolution, 1760-1830
by T. S. Ashton

In this historical overview of the industrial revolution Ashton presents two sides of an argument: that it desecrated the landscape and oppressed the workforce and that it was among the most important beneficial benchmarks in history. i am nominating this book because it has a good variety of historical and economic concepts. it will talk of capital, labor, individualism and many other things.also it is relatively short 140 pages or so which will make it more manageable. it is also available for free online.
