Best Blogs Nominations: Too bad I have no envelope to open.

1. Historical Content: for this outcome i have nominated Parker Woody's post Evolution: On the Origin of Species as an excellent example of an effective blog post. First of all he does an excellent job of laying out the issues at hand. he summarizes a few important points from the really, really long document which makes it easy for us as consumers to take in useful info fast. but also he connects his post to a slideshow that he found which gives a good introduction to the topic also. if it weren't already good enough he improves the post by listing out other topics that he would have studied had he had more time. this gives the consumer a platform to leap from and also organizes his learning. great post.

2. Computing Concepts: I nominate Eric Collyer's post Justin.tv as an excellent example of a post that helps us learn computing concepts. It is a digital literacy lab that he did. it is effective because he gives a brief description of what it is and how to do it in writing but then he embedded the actual product in the post which further explained the lab as well as fulfilling the create requirement. it is a really fun video of him creating his first live TV broadcast on his own station. It is something of real value and very unique. therefore i nominate this digital literacy lab post for this learning outcome.

Self-Directed Learning: I nominate Jeff Whitlock's post Capitalism a Brief Introduction to Microfinance as an excellent pick for this learning outcome. It is exceptional because Jeff used the ideas we talked about in class (capitalism) to connect to a topic that he is very passionate about: microfinance. He explores in depth the shortcomings of capitalism, namely that poverty is a sad side effect. after explaining the problem he puts forth a solution: small loans. and as such really personalized this post for himself and helped all of us, the consumers, to better understand what he is passionate about and what he is learning. several of his posts come back to this idea thus showing his self-directed learning motivation.  furthermore, he makes great connections at the end so that we can learn more such as a link to prezi presentation. this makes for a really rich reading experience for the consumers.
